Hot Days and Nights in Key West

Key West is a South Florida destination that boasts sunny skies, warm blue waters, great restaurants and some history that will keep just about any visitor busy. If your trip to Key West is for a weekend or for a two week vacation, there is plenty to do night and day to keep you busy the entire time. If your time in this tropical paradise calls for lazy days on the beach and partying in the clubs and night, you couldn’t pick a better place than Key West to enjoy yourself.

During the day in Key West you could take in some of the local culture and take part in many of the historic tours. The most popular way to tour Key West is the Conch Tour Train. This is a perfect way for the family to relax and enjoy all the sights and sounds of the island in a laid back train like experience. You can get a feel for all the most popular areas of the island that you can visit later in the day. A must stop after the tour is the Ernest Hemmingway House. This home acts as a museum, where you can see where the famous author penned some of his famous novels. Throughout your time on the island you will also see quite a few plaques scattered all over the place in honor of Hemmingway. He did spend a considerable amount of time in Key West.

Key West’s main attraction during the day is the beaches. The warm water and crystal clear beaches only add to the allure of the island. You can hear Jimmy Buffett and assorted Calypso music playing at anytime on any beach. Besides getting to work on your tan, you can enjoy numerous beach activities from, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing and of course fishing. Key West has a number of glass bottom boat tours that will also give you a nice perspective of the life under the sea in Key West. If your aren’t a boat person, Key West also has a very nice aquarium that has many of the marine life that inhabit the island region.

When the sun goes down, and the kids hit the hotel for some rest and relation, that is when the adults hit some of the world famous clubs that are a major part of the Key West history. The Green Parrot Bar and Sloppy Joe’s are two of the more famous clubs on the island boosting music, drinks and live entertainment. The Green Parrot is Key West’s first bar and also holds the title as the last bar in the United States because of how far south it sits. Many of these bars are open during the day, but it is after dark that they come alive. You can walk from one bar to another on famous Duval Street and party until the sun comes up. Some of the more famous bars you can visit are Captain Tony’s Saloon, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Cafe, Hog’s Breath Saloon, Schooner Wharf Bar and Durty Harry’s.

Key West also has many special events that take place in December like the Key West Holiday Parade in Old Town, the Key West Lighted Boat Parade and the Key West New Year’s Eve celebration. This night every bar and restaurant has some sort of celebration in honor of the last night of the year.
